چکیده

Raised serum levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) have been found in a variety of helminth infestations including Ascaris lumbricoides (Johansson, Mellbin &Vahlquist, 1968), Toxocara spp. (Hogarth-Scott, Johansson & Bennich, 1969), Trichinella spiralis (Rosenberg, Polmar & Whalen, 1971), Schistosoma Japonicum, Wuchereria bancrofti and hookworm (Ito, Sawada & Sato, 1972). Biroum-Noerjasin (1973) reported increased serum IgE levels after treatment for hookworm. This is in contrast to the fall which occurred after treatment in patients with intestinal capillariasis (Rosenberg et al., 1970), and 6 months after an acute episode of trichinosis (Rosenberg et al., 1971). This study was undertaken to determine whether the findings of Biroum-Noerjasin could be repeated.

Effective anthelmintic therapy of residents living in endemic area of high prevalence for Hookworm and Schistosoma mansoni infections enhances the levels of allergy risk factor anti-Der p1 IgE

In this work were investigated the relationship between Hookworm/Schistosoma mansoni infections and allergy related risk factors in two endemic areas with distinct prevalence of infections and co-infection. The intensity of infections, eosinophilia, allergy risk factors, infections status and anti-Der p1 IgE levels before and 2 years (population 1) and 3 years (population 2) after anthelmintic ...

Suppression of Basophil Histamine Release and Other IgE-dependent Responses in Childhood Schistosoma mansoni/hookworm Coinfection

BACKGROUND The poor correlation between allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (asIgE) and clinical signs of allergy in helminth infected populations suggests that helminth infections could protect against allergy by uncoupling asIgE from its effector mechanisms. We investigated this hypothesis in Ugandan schoolchildren coinfected with Schistosoma mansoni and hookworm. METHODS Skin prick test (SP...

Effects of treatment on IgE responses against parasite allergen-like proteins and immunity to reinfection in childhood schistosome and hookworm coinfections.

Naturally occurring human immunity to both schistosomiasis and hookworm infection has been associated with IgE responses against parasite allergen-like proteins. Since the two helminths frequently coinfect the same individuals, there is growing advocacy for their concurrent treatment. However, both helminths are known to exert strong immunomodulatory effects; therefore, coinfected individuals c...

Immunoglobulin IgG, IgM, IgA, and IgE Levels in Children with Chronic Sinusitis

Background and purpose: Sinusitis is a common disease in children that can lead to acute and chronic problems and sometimes severe complications. There is lack of evidence on underlying causes of chronic sinusitis in children in Iran, so, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of humoral immune deficiency in patients with chronic sinusitis. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional s...
